FRIDAY MARCH 5, 2010
Volunteers to assist Finals sides ...

Training will continue at Burrendah Reserve for the length of our teams’ finals campaign and assistance from any player who wants to help out at training will be greatly appreciated. The committee would also like to see people volunteer to act as scorers or team managers for both finals teams so that they players can concentrate on playing and not worry about scorebooks or setting up cones or stumps out. If you can assist in this way, then let either of the two captains (Rob Sims or James Della Bona) know so they can get things organised.

FRIDAY MARCH 5, 2010
Wind-up and AGM news ...

The 2009-10 season wind up is to be held at the Last Drop in Canning Vale on Saturday March 27. The cost per head will be $35, which will include your meal as well as a small contribution towards drinks. After the allowance for drinks is used, then you ill need to purchase your own drinks from the bar at our own cost. Nat James will be updating everyone on the details for payment, confirmation of numbers, etc. in the next weeks.

The Committee decided at their recent meeting that on this same day, we would have the 2010 AGM at Willetton Reserve on the same day (March 27) at 1.00pm preceding a Twenty20 match between ‘the Aussies’ and ‘the World’. We have a fantastic club, but we need more people to help and assist with the running of the club if we are to be the best club we can be. We will put out more details regarding positions available and jobs to be done in the weeks before the meeting.

If you want to be part of the Twenty20 match, please advise Derek Mott so that he can organise team allocations. This is a great chance for our English, Pakistani, Indian (and Victorian) members of the club to exact revenge for the walloping they have received at the hands of the Aussies over the last hundred years or so. Be part of it and it should be a good day and then good night at the wind up.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 5
Practice Match Reviews ...

Two teams travelled to Ferndale Reserve to represent the Willetton Crows in practice mates against the Ferndale-Lynwood Cricket Club, with the First side being successful and the Second side were narrowly defeated.

Playing on the top oval under skies which threatened rain at stages, the First side fielded first with Ferndale making 5-153 from their 30 overs, with Richard Oliver snaring 3-29 from 6 overs and Shaun Griffiths finished with figures of 2-20, with most bowlers doing well with the ball.

In reply, the Willetton Crows started well with Owen Lawton (15 including one six) and Elliott McLaughlin (19) adding 22 for the first wicket and McLaughlin combined with skipper Peter Brown to ad a further 22 for the second wicket.

Runs came at a steady rate throughout the innings, with 51 runs came from the first ten overs, 62 from the second ten and 53 from the final ten overs. Some solid batting by Brown (45 retired, including 5 fours and one six), Shaun Griffiths (33 with 3 fours and a six), Rob Simm (18 retired) and Richard Oliver (16) ensured that the Crows reached victory with a score of 6-166.

On the lower oval, the Second side batted first and made a steady start in blustery conditions. Most batsmen were able to spend at least four or five overs at the crease gaining good centre wicket practice. Paul Tunnicliffe top-scored with 20, Ashbeel Sikander worked hard for his 17 and captain Derek Mott made an unbeaten 10 at the end of the innings as the Willetton Crows finished with 6-100.

Ferndale were well-held early on by the bowling and only some attacking batting by two batsmen just before the drinks break proved to be the difference between the two sides. The Crows were impressive in the field and Ashbeel Sikander (1-8), Rob Sims (1-9), Apratim Dasdidar (1-13) and Tim Spears (1-16) all took wickets. At the close of play, Ferndale-Lynwood finished with 4-109 from their 30 overs.

We would like to thank the committee and players of the Ferndale-Lynwood Cricket Club for their fine hospitality and the great spirit in which both matches were played. I am sure that all four sides that took the field would have got value out of the hit-out and we hope that their club does well this season.

WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 24
News from the Nest ...

The sponsorship raffle is being drawn tomorrow, so anyone with tickets to be returned must get them to Rob Sims urgently.

Could those who are planning to attend the AFL Grand Final Function at Trevor Gribble Park (the Willetton Hockey Club) this Saturday please let the committee know at training tomorrow night.

There are two practice matches scheduled for Saturday October 4 against Ferndale at Ferndale Reserve, starting at 1pm. Both games will be played side by side and consist of 30 overs per side, which will give us a great chance to fine-tune our game before the season starts the following weekend. More details will be available in the next week or so.

The Market City Tavern will be the venue for our Season Launch on Thursday October 9 after training. Here, we will announce the selected sides, the captains and sponsors. A guest speaker will also be present.

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 18

Evan will provide invoices at training in the next week or so.

The first club newsletter, "Crow Calls", will be released in the next week or so once the fixtures are released. Derek Mott will be the newsletter's editor and will provide news of what has happened on and off the field each month. Copies will be available at the club as well as from the Newsletter section of this website.

The Sponsors page has also been updated, so please take note of the people who support your club, and in turn please support them where possible.

MONDAY SEPTEMBER 15
Grand Final Function ...

MONDAY SEPTEMBER 1
Two Days of Training From Next Week ...

A reminder that from Tuesday September 9, training will be on Tuesday and Thursdays from 4.30pm at the nets at the southern oval at BURRENDAH RESERVE.

FRIDAY AUGUST 15:
Training Update ...

Training sessions commence at 5.00pm at the nets at the southern oval at BURRENDAH RESERVE on Thursday August 21 (followed by a drink at the Burrendah Tavern), Thursday August 28 and Thursday September 4.

Training is at Burrendah due to works being undertaken at Willetton Reserve, resulting in the nets being currently unavailable. In addition, the 2nd Grade squad will have a couple of indoor sessions in order to prepare them for an assault on the 2nd Grade competition in season 2008-09.

FRIDAY AUGUST 1:
A Note from the Secretary ...

Another cricket season is upon us and I would like to welcome you to the new season.

First of all, could you please make sure that I receive everyone's e-mail address to allow effective communicate between the club and its players. If your e-mail has changed or if you know of anyone who has changed their e-mail address from last year or hasn't received any e-mail from the club for whatever reason, get them to send me an e-mail or send me an e-mail yourself so I can get the correct e-mail address and include them in any further communication. Also I try to make it to every cricket training so you will see me around, let me know then if you haven't received an email, or just have a question or two.

Now, down to business. I would like to welcome to the club our new club captain, Peter Brown. Peter's role is going to largely involve training and working with the 2nd grade team and as such he is also the captain of the 2nd grade team. The committee has also named Dave Clough as the club coach, so if you want to work on a particular area of your performance then he is the man to see, and don't worry, if you don't know who he is, you will find out soon enough.

Training this year, as it has been for many years, will be Tuesday and Thursday nights starting at 5:00pm. If you can't make it to training by 5:00pm due to work, etc. then just try to get there as soon as you can. Once summer gets closer, and the impact of daylight savings kicks in, you will be amazed as to how late it is possible to train effectively.

The first three training sessions of the year will be Thurday nights only, 5pm on 21st August, 5pm on 28th August and 5pm on 4th September. They were originally going to be at Willetton Reserve but recently we have been informed that from the 1st September some planned work on the ovals will make the nets there unusable. So the first two training sessions should be fine to go ahead, the third one and all others after that we will let you know what is happening as we find out. It is possible we will have to move to the Burrendah oval but there are some logistics and stuff that needs to be sorted out first.

On top of that training the 2nd grade team (and 2nd grade only) have some indoor training sessions on Sunday mornings. Times to be advised, but again we will let you know.

Those of you with the club last year will remember the shirts and shorts that were available for order, we still have some left so let me know if any of you are interested in purchasing a pair of shorts or a shirt or both.

We have planned a sundowner on Friday the 22nd August from 6-7pm, if you are interested please let me know via e-mail or otherwise.

If anyone wishes to give something back to the club then you are most welcome to join the committee or a sub-committee, we are always interested in hearing feedback from the players, that is the only way we know if we are doing a good job, so let someone know if you're interested. The main contacts are at the end of this e-mail and any one of them are always happy to hear comments or answers questions you may have.

Once again, welcome to any new players and hello to all those returning. Below are committee member contacts if you have any questions just ask myself or one of these guys.

Until next time
